The periodic flexural-gravity waves propagating along a frozen channel are investigated. has rectangular cross section. fluid in the is inviscid, incompressible and covered with ice. ice modeled by thin elastic plate whose thickness varies linearly. Two cases have been considered: symmetrically across channel, being smallest at center of largest walls; from value one wall to another wall. 2D problem reduced wave profiles channel. solution last obtained normal mode method an beam linear thickness. behavior depending on inclination parameter studied results compared those for constant-thickness plate. Dispersion relations, distributions strain cover determined. In asymmetric case, it shown that long waves, most probable failure corresponds transverse strains edge plate, which can lead detachment corresponding bank. For short longitudinal stresses within localized closer thick edge, become maximum. This cracking direction. symmetric maximum achieved inside plate—close center, but not necessarily midpoint.
